How To Report A Cybercrime

Orville BravoNovember 5, 2021,

With the rise in crime, many people are fearful for their safety. The Internet offers criminals new opportunities to commit crimes without being caught and victimizes victims who have no idea what's coming next online - like credit card fraud or identity theft! By reporting cybercrime when it happens, you can play an important role in making this global problem safer by helping law enforcement track down those responsible.

Resources Available For You

Cybercrime is a very serious issue that affects all aspects of our lives. If you have been the victim of any type of online fraud, contact your local authorities immediately and file a complaint with them to make sure this does not happen again in the future. Here is the list of some government organizations that you can file a complaint with if you are a victim of cybercrime.

US-CERT.gov

If you receive a suspicious email or online message requesting sensitive private information, report it immediately to the United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT). You can also use their hotline number of 1-888-282-0870 for reporting computer vulnerabilities in order to monitor any future threats more closely and ultimately protect yourself from becoming a victim!

FTC.gov

You can report the cybercrime to the FTC.gov ( Federal Trade Commission) at www.ftc.gov/complaint. It is a free one-stop resource in order to help you report cybercrime.

IC3.gov

If you are a cybercrime victim, file a complaint with IC3.giv ( Internet Crime Complaint) at www.ic3.gov. IC3 is basically a partnership between the National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

SSA.gov

If you think someone is using your personal social security number, feel free to contact SSA (Social Security Administration) fraud hotline at 1-800-269-027. For more resources, simply visit http://oig.ssa.gov/report-fraud-waste-or-abuse.
