How Common Is Cybercrime

Orville BravoNovember 19, 2021,

Cybercrime is increasing day by day and getting very common.  Want to know how common is cybercrime? Below we have mentioned the statistics that show how common cybercrime is.

In 2022, Worldwide spending on cybersecurity is forecast to reach $133.7 billion

With an increase in cybercrime, more money is being spent each year to prevent it and deal with its effects. According to prosecution statistics, the worldwide cost of dealing with these attacks is expected to reach $134 billion by 2022.

More than 60% of businesses experienced social engineering attacks and phishing in 2019.

The rise in social engineering and phishing attacks last year has led to a 63.8% of business owners being victims, according to recent studies reflecting that number as well!

Almost 70% of business leaders can feel that their cybersecurity risks are increasing.

Cybercrime is a fast-growing problem for businesses, and leaders of today are more vulnerable than ever. Cybercriminals have created sophisticated ways to steal information from people's digital lives in order to profit off them financially or socially-with potential damage often beyond what was intended by the criminal themselves.

Only 5% of company folders are well-protected.

The lack of security for company files is a serious problem. This negligence results in cybercrime statistics that show the majority of US businesses have not taken measures to protect their data from theft, leading them as victims rather than perpetrators themselves!

In the first six months of 2019, data breaches exposed over 4 billion records.

Social media crimes are on the rise. The number of records compromised in 2019 was 4 billion, but this figure is only for breaches occurring within the first half, and by the end-of-year, that number doubled to almost 9600 million!

The majority of breaches were motivated financially, and more than one-quarter were motivated by espionage.

Cybercrime statistics from 2019 shows that financial motivations account for the majority (72%) of cybersecurity breaches, with 26% being motivated by espionage and other reasons.

Between 2005 and 2018, 8,854 breaches were detected and recorded in the United States.

It's not surprising that in the last ten years, 8954 recorded breaches have taken place. While computer crime stats show an overall decrease of over 52% for ransomware infections and enterprise-level cyber-attacks were up 12%.
