Colonel (Col) Michael D. Navrkal is the Commander of the 92nd Troop Command of the Nebraska Army National Guard.
COL Navrkal began his military career in February 1979 when he enlisted in the Army National Guard. He entered the Federal Officer Candidate School program in April 1981, graduated and was commissioned a 2LT in June 1981. COL Navrkal has served as a Infantry Rifle Platoon Leader, Rifle Company Executive Officer, Company Commander of Company A/2-134 IN BN, Battalion S-1, Battalion S-2, Assistant Battalion S-3, Asst. Brigade S-3, Squadron S-3, Battalion Executive Officer, Battalion Commander of the 168th QM BN, Assistant Director of Logistics, HQ, STARC, and on Active Duty as a Logistics Staff Officer at National Guard Bureau. In 2006, COL Navrkal deployed for OIF 06-08 serving as Commander of the 867th Corps Support Battalion where he led an organization of over 1,500 soldiers providing logistical support in the Baghdad area of operations. After deployment COL Navrkal served as the JFHQ J-4, and during that time was detailed as the J-3 for JFHQ NENG.
COL Navrkal’s military education includes: Infantry Officer Basic Course, Reserve Component Tank Commanders Course, Armor Officer Advanced Course, Combined Arms and Services Staff School, Reserve Component Multifunctional Combat Service Support Course, Senior Transportation Officer Qualification Course, Command and General Staff Officer Course, Reserve Component National Security Issues Seminar, Joint Task Force Staff Training Course, DSCA Course, Joint Logistics Course, Joint Task Force Commander Training Course, Joint Forces Reserve Orientation Course and the U.S. Army War College.
COL Navrkal has been awarded the following citations: Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with Three Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Commendation Medal with Two Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Achievement Medal with Two Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal (Seventh Award), National Defense Service Medal with One Bronze Star, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with Silver Hour Glass and “M” device, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal with One Bronze Star, Nebraska National Guard Commendation Medal, Nebraska National Guard Individual Achievement Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Nebraska National Guard Homeland Defense Ribbon with “M” device, Nebraska National Guard Emergency Service Medal with Bronze Star and the Nebraska National Guard Service Medal with 15 year device.

COL Michael D. Navrkal was born 20 July 1960 in Nebraska City, Nebraska.
COL Navrkal graduated from Lourdes Central High School, Nebraska City, NE in 1979. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Nebraska in 1984. A Masters of Science in Security Management from Bellevue University in 2006. And a Master of Strategic Studies Degree from the U.S. Army War College in 2009.
COL Navrkal and his wife Jeanie have been married 23 years and reside in Omaha, Nebraska.
